Health systems to integrate tracking and reporting application to manage Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) process and other payer audit requests

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. – June 22, 2009 – MRO Corp., the market leader of shared-service, release-of-information (ROI) and audit tracking solutions for healthcare providers, today announced Wellspan Health System and Western Maryland Health System have selected to implement Audit Tracker Online. The request management software and service enables hospitals and health systems to effectively manage payer audits and denials from initial medical records request through appeals and payment resolution.

Under these agreements, Wellspan Health System, with more than 40 locations in Pennsylvania and Maryland; and Western Maryland Health System, comprised of two hospitals and more than 200 physicians, will integrate Audit Tracker Online with their existing release-of-information software from MRO, ROI Online™. The customizable software will allow the facilities to manage patient information, workflow, correspondence, audit determinations and the various stages of each appeals process in one central, secure location. In addition to tracking all aspects of audit processes, the health systems will be able to create detailed trend analyses, identifying steps that will allow them to enhance their claims processes and improve clinical and financial information in an effort to avoid future audits.

“Even though the start of medical necessity complex RAC audits has been pushed to January 2010, most hospitals and health systems are not waiting to prepare their staffs for the tracking and management of these future audits, nor should they,” said John Walton, vice president of sales & marketing, MRO. “Audit Tracker Online allows Wellspan and Western Maryland health systems to effectively track and manage a variety of payer audits and denials now — including private payers, quality improvement organizations and other Medicare — and Medicaid-based audits. We’re pleased to continue our relationship with these organizations.”

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently announced that while some automated RAC reviews may begin in late June and July of this year, certain types of complex reviews (e.g., coding and DRG validation) won’t occur until this fall. Medical necessity complex reviews are planned to begin in early 2010.
