New government regulations never stop in healthcare.  It’s just the nature of the business and that’s unlikely to change.  However, the reality of this is that some rules get more attention than others.  One rule that I think some have missed is the Patient Right of Access rule.  For those that may have missed some of the details, we asked Rita Bowen, Vice President, Privacy, Compliance and HIM Policy at MRO, to share with our audience some background on the rule, where it resides and a brief explanation of what it requires in the interview below.

Rita Bowen, MA, RHIA, CHPS, CHPC, SSGB

Bowen is an established author and speaker on healthcare privacy and security. She is an active member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), having served as its President and Board Chair, as a member of the Board of Directors and of the Council on Certification, and currently sits on the AHIMA Foundation Board of Directors. In her role at MRO, Bowen works with clients to ensure HIM policies and procedures are to code. Additionally, Bowen serves as the company’s Privacy and Compliance Officer (CPO).
