MRO to showcase technology at HIMSS16 in booth 6454

NORRISTOWN, Pa. – February 24, 2016 – MRO, a leader in the secure, compliant and efficient exchange of Protected Health Information (PHI), announced today that it will demonstrate its record integrity technology, IdentiScan®, during HIMSS16, in booth 6454. IdentiScan is MRO’s proprietary application that uses optical character recognition (OCR) technology to assist healthcare organizations in locating misfiled pages within record sets so they can be corrected.

Currently, MRO’s Release of Information (ROI) clients benefit from IdentiScan as an embedded feature in the ROI Online® platform, used during a robust quality assurance process. The technology highlights potential mixed record pages and alerts record integrity specialists to the potential threat. Since IdentiScan’s deployment in July 2013, MRO’s specialists have used the technology to perform quality checks on 3.1 million records and have corrected 33,778 incidents of comingled records that may have resulted in breach. With IdentiScan in place, MRO fulfills ROI requests with a 99.99 percent accuracy rate.

At HIMSS16, MRO will demonstrate how IdentiScan can be leveraged as a record integrity solution outside of the ROI process. By identifying comingled records at various points within information management workflows, IdentiScan eliminates potential breaches and improves patient safety and quality of care. Key integration points include admissions or discharge times; when generated paper is scanned into patient charts; and when records are imported into the EMR from legacy systems.

“Every day, medical records are being mistakenly filed into wrong patient charts, and this can result in harm ranging from privacy breaches to critical patient treatment errors,” said David Borden, inventor of IdentiScan and chief technology officer for MRO. “The IdentiScan technology gives hospital health information management and compliance leaders a tool they can use to identify these errors and ensure they are doing their due diligence in minimizing this risk.”

Healthcare organizations can license the IdentiScan technology for internal use or outsource the service to MRO’s professional staff of record integrity specialists.

IdentiScan will be demonstrated at HIMSS16 in booth 6454 during the presentation “Information Governance Goals for Data Integrity,” held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, March 1 – 3, 2016, from 2:00 – 2:30 p.m. PST. Individual demos are also available by request. For more information, visit MRO’s website.
