Health system to implement release-of-information (ROI) solution to improve control of its ROI process and streamline delivery of medical records

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. – May 26, 2009 – MRO Corp., the market leader of shared-services, release-of-information (ROI) and audit tracking solutions for healthcare providers, today announced a contract with DeKalb Medical (Decatur, Ga.) to provide the non-profit health system with the company’s ROI Online™ software and service.

The ROI processing solution will allow the medical records department to exert more control over the ROI process, efficiently respond to ROI requests and streamline delivery to internal and external requesters. The 775-physician health system, which is comprised of three hospital campuses, went live with MRO’s ROI Online solution in March 2009.

“Although we had been working with a Georgia-based ROI processing vendor for nearly six years, we turned to MRO because the company’s shared-services offering better positions us to generate revenue and achieve a return on our investment,” said Ron McCranie, director of medical records for DeKalb Medical. “The MRO solution takes the burden off our HIM staff and allows us to focus on what we do best.”

Once a medical records request has been received by DeKalb Medical’s HIM department, the relevant charts are uploaded onto ROI Online. MRO then completes the process, including handling requester communications and fulfillment requirements from billing, collections and logging/tracking to the distribution of requested records. MRO then remits a percentage of the revenue back to the health system on a monthly basis.

In addition to ROI Online, DeKalb Medical is currently evaluating the use of MRO’s Audit Tracker Online application to manage incoming payer audit requests from initial medical records request through the appeals process and payment resolution. This audit tracking and reporting solution can be fully integrated with the ROI process or can work as a standalone offering for those organizations not using MRO’s ROI Online. The planned Recovery Audit Contractors (RAC) process is scheduled to begin in the state of Georgia on Aug. 1, 2009.
